The Naihati New Life Society takes immense pride in presenting this report on the Women’s Tailoring Centre, an initiative undertaken to empower women in Halishar. Our organization firmly believes in promoting women’s development and gender equality, and the establishment of the Women’s Tailoring Centre aligns perfectly with our vision.
Objective:
The primary objective of the Women’s Tailoring Centre was to provide skill development opportunities to women in the Naihati community. By imparting training in tailoring and garment-making, the centre sought to enhance women’s economic prospects, boost self-confidence, and promote gender equality.
The Socio-Economic Background of the Target Group: Most of them belong to the low-income group. The family income is very vulnerable and also due to Covid 19 situation and lockdown, they are in precarious condition. They have not in a position to bear educational expenses after managing their daily meal. To keep this scenario in mind we have decided to provide better education for their bright future and also we have provided the Women’s Empowerment program through the Skill Development program. The beneficiary women are very interested in this Tailoring and Cutting program.
Economic Upliftment: Several women who completed the training program have either started their small tailoring businesses or found employment in the local garment industry. By earning a steady income, they have become financially independent and are contributing to their households.
Confidence and Self-Esteem: Through the training and hands-on experience, women reported increased confidence and improved self-esteem. They now view themselves as skilled professionals capable of making a difference in their lives and society.
Social Impact: The Women’s Tailoring Centre has become a hub for social interactions and community bonding. Women from diverse backgrounds came together to share experiences, learn from each other, and build a supportive network.
Women’s Empowerment Advocacy: The initiative garnered significant attention from local authorities, organizations, and the media. As a result, it has served as a beacon of women’s empowerment in the region, inspiring other communities to adopt similar initiatives.
Challenges and Mitigation:
Despite its success, the Women’s Tailoring Centre faced some challenges during its journey. These included limited resources, accessibility issues for some participants, and the need for ongoing support and upgradation of sewing machines and equipment.
Conclusion:
The establishment of the Women’s Tailoring Centre by the Naihati New Life Society has proven to be a transformative initiative. By providing women with the means to acquire skills, financial independence, and confidence, the centre has contributed to the overall development of the Naihati community. It stands as a shining example of how grassroots efforts can lead to significant positive change in women’s lives.
