Menstruation, a natural biological process, remains one of the most stigmatized topics in society. Lack of awareness, inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products, and cultural taboos often leave women and young girls struggling in silence. To address this crucial issue, Naihati New Life Society, with the generous support of QRG Foundation, launched Project Baala—an initiative aimed at spreading awareness about menstrual hygiene and providing sustainable solutions to those in need.
Empowering Women with Knowledge and Resources
In a remarkable effort to break the silence and bring change, Naihati New Life Society successfully distributed
5,500 reusable cotton pads to women and girls in the
Barrackpore I block. This initiative was designed not only to provide essential menstrual hygiene products but also to educate communities about
safe and sustainable menstrual practices.
The reusable cotton pads, known for their
eco-friendly and cost-effective nature, are a significant step toward
reducing waste and ensuring long-term menstrual hygiene solutions. Unlike disposable sanitary products, these pads can be washed and reused, making them an ideal choice for economically disadvantaged communities.
Breaking Myths and Stigma
A key aspect of Project Baala was
awareness sessions that tackled myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation. Through interactive discussions, educational materials, and one-on-one conversations, our volunteers helped
destigmatize menstruation and promote
open conversations about menstrual health. The initiative also addressed common superstitions, debunked harmful practices, and empowered women to take charge of their health without fear or shame.
The Impact on Barrackpore I Block
The impact of this initiative was
transformational. Women and young girls who once lacked access to safe menstrual hygiene products were not only equipped with reusable pads but also gained
confidence and knowledge about their own bodies. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude, and many pledged to spread awareness within their own families and communities, ensuring a ripple effect of change.
A Step Toward a Healthier Future
The success of Project Baala reaffirms our commitment to women’s health and empowerment.
Naihati New Life Society is proud to have taken this step in collaboration with
QRG Foundation, whose support made this initiative possible. However, the journey does not end here.
Sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions must become the norm, and for that, continued efforts, education, and support from society are essential.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this cause, and we encourage more organizations and individuals to join hands in creating a future where every woman and girl can experience menstruation
with dignity, knowledge, and access to proper hygiene products.
Together, we can break the taboo and make menstrual hygiene
a right, not a privilege.
