In a heart-warming endeavour to bring light into the lives of the poor and underprivileged elderly villagers of Barrackpore I block, the Naihati New Life Society with the support of our foreign friend The Toronto Calcutta Foundation – Canada organized a life-changing event: a Free Eye Camp and Cataract Surgery. This noble initiative aimed to provide access to quality eye care and cataract surgeries for those who could not afford such treatments. The event not only restored vision but also brought hope and happiness to the lives of countless individuals in need.
For many of the elderly villagers in Barrackpore I block, visual impairment had become a hindrance to their daily lives. Simple tasks such as walking, reading, and recognizing faces had become difficult, severely affecting their independence and quality of life. The lack of access to medical facilities and financial constraints exacerbated their suffering. Understanding the urgency of the situation, the Naihati New Life Society stepped forward to organize a Free Eye Camp to assess and address their vision-related issues.
The Naihati New Life Society’s team of dedicated and compassionate medical professionals played a pivotal role in making the event a grand success. Led by experienced ophthalmologists and supported by nurses and volunteers, the team worked tirelessly to create a warm and welcoming environment for the elderly villagers.
The days of the Free Eye Camp were filled with anticipation and hope. A total of four camps were held in the different villages of Barrackpore I block. Hundreds of elderly villagers gathered at the designated venue, where they received preliminary eye examinations and screenings. The eye care professionals meticulously assessed each individual’s eye health, diagnosing conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and refractive errors.
Those found to have cataracts, they had examined separately. Like the sugar level, ECG tests were arranged at free of cost for knowing whether the patients were fit for the surgery or not. Cataract is a leading cause of blindness among older adults, the news was particularly significant. Cataract surgeries were arranged for those in need, providing them with a chance to regain their vision and independence. In this whole thing, Chetana & Rotary Eye Hospital helped us a lot.
Furthermore, the event created awareness about the importance of regular eye check-ups and the availability of medical assistance. The Free Eye Camp and cataract surgery arranged by the Naihati New Life Society for the poor and underprivileged elderly villagers of Barrackpore I block exemplify the power of compassion and community service. This selfless act not only restored vision to those in need but also brought hope and happiness to countless lives. By joining hands and focusing on the betterment of society, we can create a brighter, more inclusive world for all, leaving no one in darkness.
